SILICON ANNOUNCES 0.15-MICRON LIBRARY AGREEMENT WITH UMC GROUP
Virtual Silicon Expands Availability of
Embedded Components With Open Architecture Developers' Kits
SUNNYVALE, Calif., — October 11,
1999 —Virtual Silicon Technology, Inc., today announced a comprehensive
agreement to supply high-density, high-speed silicon libraries for
UMC Group's 0.15-micron process. This agreement enables UMC Group
to offer its global customers a complete set of libraries for its
0.15-micron process including standard cells, I/O pads and a broad
choice of memory compilers. These embedded components will be certified
under UMC's Gold IP program. As part of this agreement, Virtual Silicon
will deliver developers' kits, endorsed by UMC Group, to customers,
design houses, IP suppliers, and other library vendors for extending
the Virtual Silicon library offering with additional standard cells
and advanced I/O cores. These developers' kits consist of specifications,
cell templates, design guidelines, and test benches to promote an
open architecture. The widespread distribution of these kits will
create a community of qualified silicon developers who generate high-quality
embedded silicon components that integrate seamlessly into high-performance
systems-on-chip applications to be manufactured by UMC Group.
Customers benefit from this vendor interoperability by having access
to a foundry-sponsored set of foundation libraries—enriched
by the broad availability of compatible third-party components. "With
the industry's move to system-on-a-chip design implementations, comes
the need for more than IP components—the need for interoperable
IP components," said Ed Wan, vice president of worldwide field engineering
at UMC Group. "This partnership with Virtual Silicon enables us to
expand our portfolio of 0.15 micron components with additional standard
cells, I/Os and memory generators that can be integrated with other
third-party components from our Gold IP™ Catalog. The
result is, customers have a more thorough selection of best-in-class
0.15 micron IP components which can be assembled together to meet
their specific design requirements." "UMC
Group continues to pioneer innovative business solutions and set the
standard for the next generation of foundry services." said Taylor
Scanlon, chief executive officer at Virtual Silicon Technology. "The
standards embodied in these developers' kits will assure our mutual
customers that their embedded components will meet UMC Group's rigorous
standards for manufacturability and quality. The open licensing model
with UMC Group will increase the availability of silicon ready components
from multiple IP developers." Availability These libraries
will be available as the first library of the year 2000. Third-party
library developers are encouraged to contact UMC Group or Virtual
Silicon. Systems companies seeking information of the performance
and density of UMC Group's 0.15-micron process, should contact UMC
Group. . About
