UMC Shareholders Approve NT$0.5 Cash Dividend at Annual Shareholders Meeting

Hsinchu, Taiwan, June 15, 2010 – UMC (NYSE: UMC; TSE: 2303), a leading global semiconductor foundry, today held its 2010 annual shareholders meeting, during which shareholders approved all agenda items including UMC's 2009 business report and financial statements.

At the meeting, shareholders also approved:
-The 2009 retained earnings distribution, which includes shareholder cash dividend of NT$6,233 million, estimated at NT$0.50 per share, employee cash bonus of NT$965 million, and directors' remuneration of NT$9.6 million.
-The amendment of the Company's "Financial Derivatives Transaction", "Acquisition or Disposal of Assets", "Loan Procedure" and "Endorsements and Guarantees Procedure".
-To release the Director from non-competition restrictions.
-The issuance plan of private placement for common shares, ADR/GDR or CB/ECB, including Secured or Unsecured Corporate Bonds.
